If you’re worried that your child’s speech may be delayed, the best thing you can do is get an evaluation from a speech therapist.
However, sometimes it’s easy to see that at their age, it’s totally normal to have trouble making certain sounds.
This chart shows you the age that 50% of kids are able to make a sound, and the age that 90% of kids are able to make a sound.
If they’re nearing the far end of the box (when most kids have developed the sound) it may be worth getting an evaluation. Especially if there are several sounds they’re struggling with or it’s really difficult to understand them.
But if they’re still towards the start of the boxes, you probably don’t have much to worry about, and they most likely wouldn’t qualify for services to work on those sounds.
